Alan's Latest (August) Letter

August 18, 2004

Hello LP-53 Classmates, other LP Alumni, and Friends,

We have now had an internet web site for seven months.  We have had many favorable comments from those of you (everyone receiving this message) who have visited the site.  Jim has incorporated all suggestions to improve or expand the site’s pages and presentation.

Our Internet Service Provider allows us to collect statistics about use of the web site in any way that you can imagine.  A cursory examination of the statistics show that the site is not frequently revisited by the same visitor (that is you).  In the past couple of months, the link to the LP-54 page has been used more than the links to other pages, e.g., “Then and Now.”  I think this is understandable because of the LP-54 50th  reunion (see below).

Because of the usage statistics, Jim wondered if the class thought that they were getting their money’s worth ($60 for 6 months)?  My reply to him, was an emphatic yes, based on comments I have received.  Along with several others from LP-53, I attended the LP-54's 50th reunion mixer on August 13.  I received many compliments and thanks from many from LP-54 that I talked to.  In 2005, if we get LP-55 involved, I think our web site will be of big use to that class.  I don’t think that any of us from LP-53 mind that other people might be getting more use of the web site at a particular point in time than are we.

Starting this month, we have committed to another six months of service.  The 6-month commitment allows us to receive the $10 per month rate.  Previous contributions cover the cost through February, 2005.   I wrote Jim that I was confident we would receive needed support in 2005 to continue the site when we asked.  Members of LP-54 have offered support.  My reply to them has been, the Class of LP-53 is happy to make the site available for others to use. If you don’t agree, let me know.

I encourage you to visit the site on a regular basis.  You need to check out all the links that are provided on the home page, and the home page information.  It’s easy.  When you visit, note the update remarks ....the latest update date is noted.  This tells you if something has changed.  You need to see the latest pictures.  A big benefit of the site is being able to show pictures, in color, with high resolution.  We cannot do this with the newsletter.  A good example is the picture of Loretta (Wojciechowski) Stenbeck and most of her family celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary for Loretta and John.  Another is the recent picture of the Gulley twins, Charlotte and Shirley (I don’t know which is oldest, but both looking good).

I noted in the latest newsletter that Jim will have hip replacement surgery August 24, or thereabouts.  He has already made plans to take his laptop computer to the hospital.  I’m not sure if the hospital is going to provide him with a plug-in for internet access (like you can get in motels these days), but he will be ready.  I hope he takes a few days being off-line to recuperate.

LP-54 held its 50th reunion August 13 and 14.  They should be sending a lot of pictures for posting in the next couple of weeks.  So, check the LP-54 link on our home page.
