Sharon Huffstodt Badenoch
Sharon was one of our cheerleaders at LP. She moved to Amelia Island, FL in 1991 with husband, Jim, and they love the small town atmosphere of Fernandina. Sharon pursues her favorite hobbies: painting, golf, piano, acting, singing, etc. -- all on this beautiful island. Sharon says, "Watercolor is as challenging as golf!" Here is some of her artwork:

Sharon's Art

Florida Sunset

Acrylic on canvas painting by Sharon (Huffstodt) Badenoch. Unfortunately, shrimp-boat numbers in Florida, and the United
States overall, are diminishing due to vast imports of foreign seafood ... almost 80% of our seafood is now imported.
Compounding the competitive pressure on the shrimp boats is the growing industry of shrimp-farming in the
states of California, Arizona, Arkansas, Kentucky and Michigan. Sharon's portrayal of shrimp boats along-side aging
docks floating idly in the Florida sunset is symbolic of the times.

Big Boy
Pelican
A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His bill will hold more than his belly can.
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week,
But I’m damned if I see how the helican.

The Olde Barn II
The Olde Barn II
"The painting is a watercolor on paper. I was commissioned to do an old barn for a friend's sister. She gave me a half dozen snapshots of old weathered barns. It sounded like a fun project so I painted three 'Olde Barns'. I think this one was The Olde Barn II. It certainly could be anywhere. That's where I got the idea. I improvised the road, background, etc to make it more interesting.  My friend chose hers and another sold at the "Blue Door Gallery" ( another gallery/studio in downtown that I  work and exhibit in. It's a fun hobby but I still enjoy golfing.  Had my 8th hole in one last week hitting the hole with a 9 iron on a 90yd par 3.
'Twas fun, but I had to buy the beer."

Beached

"This is a photo of 'Beached,' a watercolor, approximately 24" x 30".

I saw this dilapidated boat on shore tied to a piece of driftwood on the beach.
I didn't see anyone around to claim it so I took a picture and painted it." -- Sharon

Extract of letter from Sharon to Alan on her art, dated 15 September 2004.

"It was nice of you to respond regarding my painting (Some like it Hot) was the title.  I got the idea from a black and white photo of a creek in Palatka, Fl.

Then just went with very warm colors predominantly.    Just finished another one similar and titled it "On the Bayou).
I did the painting in late July and hung it in our co-op Gallery here on the Island.
A gentleman purchased it a few days later and I shipped it to New Mexico.  He's stayed in touch by writing/calling and telling me how much he enjoys looking at every day.  It's quite a kick to have people appreciate your efforts.
The original was 18"X22" - Framed and matted was 28"X32".  That is the only painting I've had prints made.  My art instructor took a digital photo and had it printed for me.  He has it on a disc.
The prints are 9"X12" matted and mounted on corefoam. Wrapped in kryovac and sell for $75.00.  With metal frame $100.00. This month I am featured artist at the Golf Club here on the Island.  Have 10 pieces hanging and have sold a few this past week.  It's alot of fun when people find out you paint and are totally surprised.  Go on the co-ops web site  www.islandart.org
It needs to be updated as most of those paintings are sold and my sheets about 4 years old.
We weathered the lates hurricane without any severe damage.  No electric for 4 days, which was a little stressful but we're thankful we didn't take a direct hit. Oh! I recently finished  a large painting of the Marblehouse Lighthouse in Ohio.  I saw the picture on a calendar and improvised.  Will send you a picture - It's rather different."
